Man, you guys sure do take stuff personally, well beyond the boundaries of logic and common sense. Get an iPhone, chatter with your buddies and buy lots of tunes. These days Apple is basically telling all it's more unix-y and technically sophisticated customers that we're not wanted any more (unless you do video production). I find it hard to imagine any response except guffaws from Apple's upper management if someone were to suggest that X11 integration and functionality (it has problems not even considering integration) deserved some attention. In an era when Apple is willing to delay Leopard so that it can shift bodies to the iPhone. I suspect that the reasons are multiple, and that simple inattention, low priority, and "who cares" are a lot of it. then we's suspect that the situation could never change.

The analysis of why "this is all there is" is moot, except in the following sense: if the real reason is exactly a management decision to insure that "native commerical software sells better". The fact that X11 on the Mac is such a PITA is beyond depressing, IMO it is sufficient for me to see it as osX isn't functionally "a unix." Like it or not (and I will be the first to say that there are many things not to like about X11 and their associated window managers) X11 is the de facto windowing/UI interface on Unixes. Man, does this whole subject rile me up it's one of my major beefs against osX. My guess is that Apple wants to treat cross-platform apps as second class citizens so that native commercial software sells better. I think that what's silly is how badly integrated X11 is.
